God Is…I Am… Devotional

Day 17 – 2/11/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

God is My Hope

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is lovingkindness, and with Him is abundant redemption.

PSALMS 130:7, NASB

RENEWING THOUGHT:

God is our future, our hope. He is our inheritance and our exceedingly great reward. We are not as those who do not have hope. On the contrary, we are the ones who have great hope! True hope! Real hope!

Why? Because the Father who has adopted you has fastened His “lovingkindness” upon you and has directed His “abundant” redemptive power toward you. No one who belongs to God should despair or faint in the midst of even the most ferocious storm of life. We should not even fear death, for we know where we are going.

As you renew you mind to the reality of God’s goodness and faithfulness, hope in your heart is the natural result.

Hope is one of the big three! As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain, faith, hope and love.” Hope does not disappoint and “those who place their hope in Me [God] will not be disappointed” (Isaiah 49:23).

God is our hope. Now and throughout eternity. Our hope is set behind gates of pearl and streets of gold. He has gone before us to prepare a place for us. There, He will wipe away every tear and give us joy everlasting.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

When you love God, live for Christ, and lead by His Spirit, you unleash a glorious future in the present of each and every day.

Day 18 – 2/12/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

I Am Hopeful in God

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever…

PSALMS 146:5-6, ESV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

It is tempting to place your hope in tangible things. Some put their hope in riches, fame, connections, or power. Others put their hope in a job, a retirement account, or a relationship.

This is easy to do because these things can be seen, heard or touched. However, hope in anything other than Christ is misplaced hope.

The Bible says that the one who is truly blessed is the one whose hope is in the Lord his God. When our hope is in ourselves, we hope in that which is limited, finite, frail, and flawed. When we put our hope in the Lord, we put our hope in the One who is limitless, infinite, and perfect.

When we hope in the Lord, we hope in the One who made heaven and earth. Every nation, every tribe, every tongue belongs to the Lord. The earth is His, and all it contains. The past is the Lord’s, as is the present and future. And nothing is impossible for God!!

The psalmist who penned Psalm 42 reveals that sometimes, when fighting discouragement or despair, it is necessary to talk to your own soul and point it toward God in hope. He wrote, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (Psalms 42:5, NIV).

Place your hope in the only place it belongs-in the Mighty God who loves you!!

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

It’s easy to get negative and lose our enthusiasm. But think about what the Psalmist said, I will keep on hoping for You to help me. I will praise You more and more.
