God Is…I Am… Devotional

Day 33 – 2/27/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

God is My Abba

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ''Abba, Father. "

ROMANS 8:14-15

RENEWING THOUGHT:

On the streets of Israel children still call out, "Abba!" It is the Hebrew word for dad or daddy. As with da-da in English speaking nations, ab-ba is often the first word an infant  Israel utters-to the delight of their fathers. The Bible reveals that God is our Abba. lt is a profound mystery that our God wants us to call Him "Abba." It makes sense that we would call Him El Elyon (The Most High God) or Adonai Tsevaot (Lord of Hosts) because , well, He's God. And yet, when He places His Holy Spirit within us, that Spirit moves us to cry out "Abba."

Only children call their fathers, "Daddy." When they become adults, they usually no longer use that term. Why? Because it is the expression of a dependent child. A child who is in need calls out, "Daddy!" A child who is afraid cries out, "Daddy!" As we grow older, more independent and self-sufficient, the term begins to feel inappropriate. That is precisely why your born-again spirit cries "Abba!" It is always appropriate because we never outgrow our complete dependency on our Father God. We are never self-sufficient in our relationship to God.

Have you fully absorbed the truth that God is your Abba?  Do you run confidently and expectantly to your heavenly Father? You can. His heart is soft toward you. His arms are stretched toward you. As a little one who runs to his father when he comes home, so you may run and jump into your heavenly Daddy’s arms. He is your Abba.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

Look an obstacle in the eye and say, “I will defeat you. I am a child of the Most High God, and I am going to become all that He has created me to be.”

Day 34 – 2/28/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

l Am Adopted Forever

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will ...

EPHESIANS 1:4-5

RENEWING THOUGHT:

Have you ever seen a photo or video of an orphan child when he just received the news that a family has adopted him? Tear of joy tend to be the first response. When an orphan gets the long-awaited news of a forever home, he or she can't wait to jump into the arms of that new parent. Finally, they have been chosen, are wanted, and belong.

Though you may not fully comprehend it, the same wonderful gift has been bestowed upon you. When God drew you to Himself and saved you by His grace, you were adopted by the most loving, kind, safe, and generous Father ever. You have a future and a hope. You were not left an orphan. You belong to Him.

God adopted you to sonship. You were chosen by Him for relationship and love, and for eternity. You are the recipient of the most lavish expression of poured-out love in the history of the world. The heavenly Father, the God of heaven and earth, reached down to you while you were still a sinner and made you His own. This is your forever adoption.

Today, embrace the truth that you have been chosen and adopted by God. ln doing so, He made you a co-heir with Jesus and seated you with Him in heavenly places (See Ephesians 2:6). Secure in this comforting knowledge, you can face any situation, overcome any obstacle, and defeat any foe. In the Courts of heaven, you are known as a child of the King. With God as your Father, nothing is impossible for you.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

God has adopted you and welcomed you into His holy family. He has given you a wise and loving elder Brother, Jesus. He has called you to help fulfill His purposes throughout the earth.
