“Empowering the abused woman to recover with God's truth"

"Break Up Your Fallow Ground, For It Is Time to Seek the Lord" by Pastor Matthew Gargano

Let God tend to your heart. “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” - Hosea 10:12

How hard are your insides, my brother? Who are you mad at, my sister? What past experiences are preventing you from allowing God to wield His axe of mercy, and cut down at its root, every stronghold of hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness, doubt, unbelief, rejection, confusion, pride, abuse, and self-reliance?

God wants to move in us and through us in a powerful way; but many of His precious sons and daughters have built dams deep down within, which prevent His love from having free course and flowing completely into every area to heal every unhealed hurt, resolve every unresolved issue, and meet every unmet need. We  must allow  God  to break  up the fallow ground in our hearts. To “break,” as used here, is niyr (pr. neer)--“through the idea of a gleam of a fresh furrow, to till the soil” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance).

Webster’s Dictionary defines “gleam” as “a small, but bright light.” 1 John 1:7 illuminates the way as it guides “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”

God is light and there is no darkness in Him (1 John 1:5b); therefore, we must walk in Christ if we are going to walk in the light. And we must allow Christ to dwell completely in us, which means giving Him access to every area of our hearts, which includes those areas that we have even sealed off from ourselves and can no longer access. It is the light of God’s love that will break up the fallow ground within our hearts.

Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary helps set the soil of our hearts as it explains “The expression, ‘Break up your fallow ground’ (Hos. 10:12; Jer. 4:3) means, ‘Do not sow your seed among thorns’, i.e., break off all your evil habits; clear your hearts of weeds, in order that they may be prepared for the seed of righteousness.

Land was allowed to lie fallow that it might become more fruitful; but when in this condition, it soon became overgrown with thorns and weeds. The cultivator of the soil was careful to ‘break up’ his fallow ground, i.e., to clear the field of weeds, before sowing seed in it. So says the prophet, ‘Break off your evil ways, repent of your sins, cease to do evil, and then the good seed of the word will have room to grow and bear fruit’” ((C) 1897 M.G. Easton, MA, DD).

My New Spirit-Filled Life Bible breaks Hosea 10:12 further down for us: “Keep watch over your heart and over your spiritual life. Sin is insidious; it may seem harmless in the beginning, but its end brings destruction and separation from God. Do not allow it to germinate in your heart.  Hosea instructs us to break up the hard places in our lives and to sow the seed of righteousness. Sow righteousness in your life and you will reap the fruit of faithfulness and mercy.  Ask God to show you and to soften any places in your spiritual life that have become hardened so that the soil of your heart will be ready to receive seed that will bear much fruit” ((C) 2002 Thomas Nelson, Inc).

Let us guard the soil of our hearts by allowing the Master Gardener to prepare the right condition of our inner being, so that as He plants the seeds of His Word in this good and receptive ground, and waters them with His love, we will produce a mighty harvest that glorifies God so magnificently, that all will want to come to taste His amazing and unconditional goodness.

Father, help us to surrender every past experience, every unhealed hurt, unresolved issue, and unmet need over to You. Shine your marvelous light in every dark area in us, that all of our hidden places are absorbed by Your magnificent love. We submit our hearts to You and lay them on Your altar. We break up our fallowed ground by seeking You. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we walk in the Light of Your Love, because we have  turned every place in  us  over to You.  Amen  and  Amen.

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to surrender yourself completely over to your Father so that He can prepare your fallow ground. Determine to “cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5-6b). And continue to fight the good fight of keeping  the  condition of  your heart pristine with the sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:22); for God, your Holy Ground, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins--past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.”

Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ! God tells us  that  we  are  blessed  to  be  a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement. If God did not already put someone in your spirit and on your heart that needs to read this uplifting message from above, simply ask your Heavenly Father who to bless on today.
