God Is…I Am… Devotional

Day 69 – 4/4/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

God is Light

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. "

JOHN 8:12 NIV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

The first decree the Creator ever uttered in this material universe was "Let there be light" (see Genesis 1:3). He not only spoke light into being, He is light.

The same is true of Jesus. John described Jesus' entry into the material world this way: "... His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it" (John 1:4-5, NLT).

Yes, our fallen world is full of darkness. But if you follow Jesus, you walk in the Light and the world's darkness cannot overcome or extinguish it. Light always overcomes darkness. As a Believer, you shine His light into the darkness. When others see and are drawn to His light, they too can find salvation.

Jesus is the Light of the World, and by His light, people are freed from darkness. If you follow Him, you walk with the One who brings light and you are freed from the snares and thorns of darkness. Walk in the Light and shine the light of Jesus into the world today.

Welcome Jesus into every area of your life and watch His light dispel darkness throughout your life and being.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

Your two greatest weapons in this battle will always be the blood of the cross and the Word of truth. When you are struggling, cry out to Jesus. Plead His blood and hold to His name, for there is power in the name and blood of Jesus.

Day 70 – 4/5/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

I Am the Light of the World

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

MATTHEW 5:14-16, NKJV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

As a Believer, you are a carrier of the divine light of the life of God. As Paul exhorted the Believers in Ephesus: "For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true" (Ephesians 5:8-9, NLT). As a "person of the light," Jesus exhorted you to let that light shine boldly and conspicuously in this dark and hurting world. ln other words, your call is not to operate as a clandestine Christian, but as a light that shines brightly for all to see. Others can and will find eternal life when they see the light of Jesus coming through you.

A city on a hill can be clearly seen. It is not a secret city. The deeds of a city on a hill are done in full view of all. This is the picture Jesus gave you for your life and testimony. So, boldly display Him and live the message of the Gospel-in your home, workplace, or wherever you may be.

You are His hands and feet on the earth, and you can literally display the truth of the Gospel through the way you live. You do not have to strive or struggle to produce this light. lt is within you and it naturally produces only what is good.

Like a city on a hill, let all see your light. You witness to others with your peace, love, and hope. Let it shine.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

Be Light! When light stands next to darkness, light always wins!
