God Is…I Am… Devotional

Day 81 – 4/16/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

Jesus Humbled Himself

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

PHILIPPIANS 2:5-8, NKJV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

Truly following in Jesus’ footsteps means taking up the same frame of mind He had. His remarkable humility and heart to serve others becomes all the more astounding when we contemplate who He really was. Prior to His incarnation, God the Son, was equal with God in heaven. He was the Logos-“the Word”-worshipped and resplendent in unspeakable glory and power. And yet He did not consider this position of privilege and prestige a thing to be clung to. Rather, He emptied Himself of all this power to become one of us. More than that, He came to serve.

In humility, He chose the Father’s will above His own. Jesus modeled servanthood in a practical way at the Last Supper. As the evening meal was in progress, Jesus got up, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. Then He poured water the into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet. The task of feet washing was customarily done by the lowest status servant in the household.

The Bible encourages you to emulate that example and approach life the same way Jesus did. That means not demanding your rights and due privileges. It means rejecting the values of our status-conscious creature. Most of all, it means putting the Father’s will above your own. This is the way of purpose and blessing. Let this mind be in you.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

It’s important to understand that our Father does not want us to be humiliated or have a poor self-image. He wants us to think highly of ourselves-because we are His creation. Yet, at the same time, He wants us to be humble in the sense of giving ourselves…to Him and to others.

Day 82 – 4/17/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

I Have the Mind of Christ

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

1 CORINTHIANS 2:16, ESV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

It is a simple, unambiguous declaration too preposterous to be true, yet there it is, written in black and white in your Bible: God has given you the mind of Christ.

God created your mind with the capacity for brilliance. He made you in His image. And when you were born again by the Holy Spirit, you became as capable of hearing and understanding the will of God as Jesus.

Your mind does not belong to the enemy. It belongs to God and God alone. He has richly blessed you with the mind of Christ. His mind is full of wisdom and knowledge, and the Word of God. With the mind of Christ, you can remain at peace and rest.

The mind of Christ is a mind that is full of the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When you live in the Spirit, you bear the fruit of the Spirit.

With the mind of Christ, you can hear God’s voice, understand His will, and discern right from wrong; you can walk in wisdom, understanding, and discretion. Receive the mind of Christ and you will make godly decisions, hear His voice, and walk in truth.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

If you will commit to set your mind on God’s Word, renewing your mind with truth and getting stinkin’ thinkin’ out of your way, then you will experience the fullness of new life that we can all have in Christ. All it takes is a little more progress one day at a time.
